Who We Are

Institutional Innovation is one of three teams within Institutional Research, Innovation, and Strategy (IRIS) and works closely with the other IRIS teams to serve Notre Dame across a range of institutional and unit-level efforts.

What We Do

We support campus partners in solving complex problems that enable the University to more effectively advance its mission. Our work combines analysis, internal and external landscape reviews, comprehensive assessments, and tailored design exercises to inform decisions and drive practical, implementable improvements in areas such as service delivery, process design, organizational structure, automation, and shared services.

These engagements range from targeted college, school, or divisional efforts to institutionally significant initiatives that cross the University and take shape through organizational evaluations, process improvement projects, and other special projects.

How We Do It

We engage with partners to gain a thorough understanding of the problem through research, interviews, and data analysis. Our next step is the design phase. We use intentionally crafted design methods to develop holistic solutions with our project partners. Finally, we work to implement these solutions by establishing transparency of progress and clear goals for full implementation and adoption.

Overall, our work is guided by the following:

  • An institutional focus: Our work is conducted as an institutional resource and supported by leadership because it addresses critical needs and aligns with key institutional priorities

  • Immersion and integration within our partners’ work: We are committed to advancing our partners’ goals through developing subject matter expertise and shared ownership of project outcomes

  • Responsive and collaborative engagement with our partners: We serve as added capacity and adapt to the evolving needs of both the institution and our partners.
